Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Under general supervision of licensed physicians, performs and/or assists in performing all MRI examinations in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures. Provides care to patients of all age groups in the form of diagnostic testing.
  • Performs MRI imaging procedures. Operates specialized MRI imaging equipment to produce clinical diagnostic images, as directed by physicians. Performs MRI studies of anatomical areas as ordered/directed, according to established standards and procedures.
  • Provides leadership and direction to support personnel in the absence of a supervisor.
  • Assigns break and mealtime coverage in the absence of a supervisor, or as directed.
  • Delegates responsibility to staff as appropriate in the absence of a supervisor, or as directed.
  • Participates in the training and continued development of staff.
  • Informs supervisor or appropriate personnel of needed repairs to equipment or unsafe conditions.
  • Applies the necessary technical judgment to obtain studies of an acceptable diagnostic quality according to written protocols and the patients’ needs.
  • Sets up, adjusts, and operates MRI equipment, selecting proper technical factors to obtain accurate MRI studies; properly positions and immobilized patients.                  
  • Responds to patients’ needs as required. Provides patient education relevant to specific imaging procedures by informing the patient of the nature of the procedure, the area to be imaged and any specific instructions the patient may need.        
  • Reviews all patient safety questionnaire prior to introducing any patients into the MRI scan room.
  • Ensures all MRI images are appropriately labeled as specified by the department SOP.   
  • Evaluates images for technical acceptability and ensures images are transmitted to PACS in a timely fashion.                     
  • Ensures that all studies performed are completed in IDX (Radiology Information System) in a timely fashion.        
  • Ensures Radiology room and equipment cleanliness, at the start and at the end of the shift, to include removal of soiled or dirty linen.              
  • Scans patient related documents            
  • Maintains supplies and accessories in radiographic room necessary to safely perform duties, as required.                   
  • Accurately records all required patient tracking information into IDX (Radiology Information System).                    
  • Schedules exams into IDX (Radiology Information System) as required.                
  • Informs supervisor or appropriate personnel of needed repairs to equipment or unsafe conditions.
  • Assists physician directly as required.                
  • Calls for in-patients as required.                          
  • Performs related clerical duties in the absence of support personnel.                      
  • Maintains safety standards via strict adherence to safety guidelines in order to prevent the introduction of ferromagnetic material into the scan room.                  
  • Protects self, patients, and employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocols.                 
  • Attends in-services and other professional development meetings as required.       
  • Performs daily quality control calibration checks on all equipment in order to ensure the equipment is calibrated and working properly before any patient study is performed.
  • Observes all department documentation policies by filling in all appropriate logs, manuals, charge documents, as well as, reporting equipment problems in order to comply with regulatory agencies.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • Graduate of accredited school of Radiologic Technology
  • NY State DOH License in Radiologic Technology, BLS certification
  • ARRT certification in Radiography (R) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience preferred
  • Strong background in cross sectional anatomy, physical sciences, and M.R. physics
